In ArtStudio Pro, there is no preview of the resized canvas, so it’s all guesswork on what dimensions to use and where to crop. Secondly, resizing the canvas was much easier before, as you could choose the dimensions and then crop your art with a square that would encompass the area you wanted to keep. ArtStudio Pro does not seem to offer the ability to make custom brushes, and I’ve had to hold off from doing landscapes unless I want to draw everything from scratch. I used this to make grass, flower, and tree brushes that were VERY handy. In the original ArtStudio it was possible to make custom brushes. The Apple Pencil works great with it, especially the Taper brush.īeing that this is an app I swear by and recommend to everyone, I do have only two main complaints. ArtStudio Pro introduces a lot of good features, like customizable color palettes, rotating the canvas, and a much nicer Lasso tool. It’s a great app to have when you’re on the go and still want to work on art. I have been using ArtStudio since the first version on the iPad 1 and I do all my digital art on it. Introducing Artstudio Pro, the most powerful painting and photo editing app available for both iOS and macOS. I like to think of compression as a function which “squeezes” the size of the audio file. I use it for rock songs, hip-hop songs, and pretty much any song that I’ve made. One of my favorite parameters to use in the compressor is the “Platinum Analog Tape” preset, which, as I explained in my compression guide, I find works great for pretty much everything. I’ve never heard anyone else recommend this, but I find it definitely makes a difference in how your mix will sound (my guide on mastering).Īnother great way to increase the volume of the song, although professional engineers won’t recommend thinking of this tool in this way, is to use a bit of compression.Ĭompressing the final product will reduce the volume of the loudest parts of the song and increase the quietest part of the song. The next thing to keep in mind is that when you’re exporting the track and getting ready to master it, you want to have the Master Volume level set at +0.0dB, nothing more and nothing less. I meant “best” not “beat.” Set The Master Volume To +0.0dB Before Exporting The Song As An AIFF Typically, you want your tracks to either float around in the green or at least go into the Yellow during the loudest parts of the song, additionally, you can use the YouLean Loudness Metering Tool to help you understand just how loud your track is. In other words, there are little VU meters beside each software instrument track in your Pre-Mastered mix, and you don’t want any of these going into the red. The next step is to ensure that none of your clips are clipping, or going into the red. Watch For Clipping At The Loudest Parts Of The Songįirst things first, is to always have the auto-normalize function turned off, as I just mentioned.Reduce Velocity Of Notes That Are Too Loud Or “Strong”.Limiter Can Also Be Used For Loud Peaks.Set The Master Volume To +0.0dB Before Exporting The Song As An AIFF.Obviously, this is super annoying, so I’ll help you work through this if you’re struggling with the same issues I once had. When I first started using Garageband, I found it difficult to upload music that was as loud as the competition, as well as without clipping and distortion during the loudest parts of the song. Now that you’ve figured out how to eliminate this problem, you’ll likely run into more hiccups along the way, which I’m going to help you solve today. While this is good, the function goes a bit overboard because the music will pretty much always be too quiet. I’m not sure what the function of this is, however, the effect is that it uploads your tracks to various platforms without any distortion or clipping. You’ll notice that if you have this function turned on, Garageband will export music at a relatively low volume. Professional DAWs like Logic Pro X and FL Studio are capable of these higher sampling rates.įor a more detailed explanation of how to fix the first problem, have a look at the steps shown below:Ģ) Click on “Garageband” in the top-left setting in the Toolbar.ĥ) From here, you should see a setting that says, “Auto-Normalize,” and there is a check box located next to it with the setting, “Export Projects at Full-Volume.” To fix this, open the project, click GarageBand in the toolbar, choose Settings, Advanced, and then uncheck the box that reads “Export projects at full volume.“Īnother commonly cited reason for GarageBand’s suffering from insufficient audio quality is due to the fact it uses 24-bit audio from 44.1kHz to 48kHz for recording when the modern standard is 96kHz with a 24-bitrate. Generally speaking, GarageBand songs are too quiet after export because the Auto-Normalize function is enabled in Settings. One has to do with a setting in Garageband’s ‘Settings,’ within the ‘Advanced’ tab. There are a couple of reasons why Garageband songs can be too quiet. There are also ON EMPTY and ON ERROR clauses. To see a comparably bright and crisp view, you'd need a bigger aperture (right). This view can be made bigger by using an eyepiece with higher magnification (center), but then the view is dim and fuzzy. The image at left shows how Saturn looks through a 2.8-inch scope. These images were made by manipulating a Hubble Space Telescope photo to simulate Saturn’s appearance through different size telescopes. Only so much detail exists in the image created by a telescope's main mirror or lens, so you must find the optimum range of magnifications to see this detail - without spreading out the target's precious light too much, making a dim object too dim to see, or turning a bright object into a big blur. Two main factors limit how much power you can use productively with a given instrument: aperture (again) and atmospheric conditions. When seeing a telescope for the first time, a novice often asks, "How much does it magnify?" The answer is, "Any amount you want." Any telescope can provide an almost infinite range of magnifications, depending on the eyepiece that you use with it.īut don't get the idea that super-high powers will do you much good. That means that a little 70-mm scope gathers 100 times as much light as your eyes, revealing amazing detail on the Moon and pleasing views of all the planets, as well as showing hundreds of star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. That may not be a problem if you keep your scope stored in a shed and wheel it out for use, but a bulky telescope could be a show-stopper if you need to carry it up and down many flights of stairs, want to take it on an airplane, or store it in a cramped apartment.Īlthough it may be less capable, even the smallest telescope is a huge improvement over your unaided eyes, which have a measly 7 mm (0.28 inch) aperture at best. Telescopes with big lenses or mirrors tend to be heavy and bulky. That’s hardly surprising considering that the large aperture gathers nearly 13 time more light than one only 2.8 inches across.ĭoes that mean you should rush out and buy the biggest telescope that you can afford? Not necessarily. Let’s compare the extremes: Small objects such as planets appear much crisper and more detailed through a 10-inch scope, and faint objects such as galaxies and nebulae appear bolder. In general, the larger a telescope’s aperture, the more impressive any given object will look. Apertures commonly recommended for beginner telescopes range anywhere from 2.8 inches (70 mm) up to 10 inches. A scope's aperture determines both its light-gathering ability (how bright the image appears) and its resolving power (how sharp the image appears). The most important aspect of any telescope is its aperture, the diameter of its main optical component, which can be either a lens or a mirror. Aperture: A Telescope's Most Crucial Specification It’s often cheaper to buy one telescope that’s specialized for visual observing and a separate scope for astrophotography than to buy a single scope that is suitable for both jobs.īefore examining the different telescopes available, it's worth knowing the basics of how they work. If you’re new to astronomy, it’s smart to gain a thorough grounding in visual astronomy before you contemplate astrophotography. It’s easy to take snapshots of the Moon through any telescope, but long-exposure photos of galaxies and nebulae require lots of time, patience, and specialized equipment. This guide concentrates on visual observing, as opposed to astrophotography. What do you most want to look at? How dark is your sky? How experienced an observer are you? How much are you prepared to spend? Where will you store your telescope, and how much weight are you willing to carry? Answer these key questions, familiarize yourself with what's on the market, and you'll be well on your way to choosing a telescope that will satisfy you for many years to come. We'll also look at the tradeoffs, because every instrument has its advantages and disadvantages.īefore you buy anything, you must determine what's important to you. We'll start by exploring the basic features common to all telescopes, and then look at some specific designs. Whether you're seriously considering buying your first telescope or just daydreaming about it, this guide will help you narrow your options. Naturally, this brings the burden of choice: the bewildering variety makes it hard for an uninformed consumer to make the right decision on what type of telescope to buy. Never before have novice stargazers been presented with such a vast array of telescopes and accessories to pursue their hobby. This is an exciting time to become an amateur astronomer. Phagosomes of macrophages contain cell fragments and intact PMN’s. Crystals are strikingly absent within PMN infiltrating the synovium or in synovial vessels. Inflammatory cells are seen as described under light microscopy. In experimental urate crystal synovitis crystal phagocytosis by lining cells has also been seen (13) (Fig. The type A macrophage related cells have large vacuoles with granular material and cell debris and occasional definite crystal outlines in phagolysosomes (8). 8) (8).Įlectron Microscopy - During acute gouty arthritis there is surface fibrin-like material and proliferation of lining cells with predominance of Type B and intermediate cells. Fibrin like material has been seen between some tophi and the joint space ( Fig. Many synovial tophi are very superficial and often rather thinly encapsulated with fibrous tissue. Acute inflammatory cells are strikingly absent around tophi. The cells surrounding the tophus crystalsare fibrocytes, macrophages, other mononuclear cells and some foreign body giant cells. Tophi may also occasionally calcify with deposition of hydroxyapatite. Immunoglobulins have also been localized to tophi (12) ( Fig. Lipid stains show most lipid at the margins (5). There is faint PAS staining and some metachromasia. The matrix material around the crystals has been shown to contain cholesterol and mucopolysaccharides (5). If crystals are dissolved out leaving only the amorphous purple stained matrix, the former sites of tophi, they could be confused with rheumatoid nodules (5) although clefts from which crystals have been dissolved can often be seen. The DeGalantha stain or Gomori Methenamine silver stainalso can be used to stain the crystals (11) ( Fig. Urate crystals can alsobe easily identified in frozen sections or acetone fixed tissue of stained sections examined with compensated polarized light. 5) but alcohol fixation preserves them intact. Crystals are dissolved out by formalin based fixatives (10) ( Fig. Tophi consist of monosodium urate, needle shaped, crystals arranged radially ( Fig. Tophi are also clearly present in asymptomatic joints between attacks (5). Tophi are commonly seen in synovium, for example being found in 3 of 10 needle synovial biopsies in acute gouty arthritis (8) and in 4 of 6 biopsies in another series (9). Foreign body type giant cells have been seen near the surface. PMN infiltration may be striking in one piece of synovium while an adjacent specimen may show mainly chronic inflammatory cells. Vessels are congested and PMN may be marginated in the lumens of venules. Diffuse and perivascular infiltration by PMN is seen (Fig.2), but in addition there are almost always also lymphocytes, macrophages and even clumps of plasma cells ( Fig. Synovial lining cells are proliferated in some areas (8). Light Microscopy – During acute gouty arthritis an exudate containing PMN and fibrin adheres to the synovial surface. There is still some uncertainty as to whether this surface depositioncan be early or whether tissue deposits are always first. A diffuse crust of urates over virtually the entire synovial and/or cartilage joint surface can also occasionally be seen. Most are in the tissue and are not removed by irrigation (4-7). Crystal containing tophi may be seen in the tips or stems of villi. Gross – Tophi as refractile white clumps embedded in the synovium can fairly often be seen on the synovium surface at either surgery or autopsy.
